Like the adult hats, the brim can be varied over four widths - from cute 'bowler' hat to wide-brimmed sunhat . The hats can be styled to suit girls and boys and the instructions include three brim finishes - no binding, bias binding and straight binding.

A wide brim with a plain edge makes a wonderfully shady hat. This one is in quilting weight cotton and has a yo-yo trim. Because it is a small size, it only needs medium-light interfacing to give it some structure in the crown, and a combination of light and heavy in the brim. |
Pinwale corduroy is a lovely weight fabric for winter hats for kids. This one has button detailing and co-ordinating straight-grain binding and lining. This is a small size hat, and it has medium-light interfacing. |

YOU WILL NEED:
40-65cm* x 115cm wide fabric - (quilting cotton, wool, corduroy, light denim and many other fabrics are equally suitable)
60cm-1m x fusible woven interfacing - to suit your fabric and create the structure you want.
25cm-50cm* light fabric for lining (Eg. quilting cotton).
*Fabric quantity depends on the size of hat, brim width and your choice of bias-cut or straight-cut crown. Details are in the instructions.
OPTIONAL :
50-60cm x 2.5cm (1") wide Petersham ribbon
18mm-20mm wide bias tape (or use a bias tape maker)
